20-Time Project
All students in Grades 6 - 8 are taking part in what is called a 20-Time project (aka Genius Hour). Originally a brainchild of the folks at Google, 20-time gives students the opportunity to explore and learn about something they are interested in that is not part of what they are learning in school. The only restrictions are that the projects must be safe, legal and school-appropriate. Students are asked to create a proposal about what they want to do, and get approval from their homeroom teacher and their parents. They have to present their proposal to their classmates. They need to come up with an implementation plan to show how they plan to achieve their goal. As they work through the project, they are required to blog weekly as a way of journaling their progress. They are also required to comment on other students' blogs. At the end of the project, they will be required to give a 15-minute presentation about their project -- why they did it, what they achieved, what stumbling blocks they discovered, etc.

The projects encompasses outcomes from the Career and Technology Foundations program of studies, which is available for schools to implement with students in Grades 5 - 9.
